Celebrating 100 Years
Introduction:
As the leaves unfurl and the fairways return to their lush green splendor each spring, Reedsburg Country Club in Reedsburg, Wisconsin, welcomes its members and guests with the promise of another season of memorable golf. This year, however, is not just any season; it marks the beginning of our centennial celebration. Officially opened in 1924, our beloved golf course has reached an incredible milestone—100 years of golfing tradition, community gatherings, and unforgettable events.
A Rich History:
From its inception in 1924, Reedsburg Country Club has been more than just a place to play golf; it has been a community cornerstone.
The original 9-hole course was a vision brought to life by local enthusiasts who saw the potential for a premier golfing experience in Reedsburg. The evolution of our club is marked by the many significant milestones that followed.
In 1977, renowned course designers Killian and Nugent added nine new holes, skillfully blending strategic play with aesthetic beauty. This expansion enhanced our course’s challenge and charm, attracting golfers of all skill levels.
Over the decades, the course has continued to evolve, mirroring the growth and changes of its surrounding community.
Clubhouse History:
The original clubhouse at Reedsburg Country Club, established in 1924, was a hub of community and golfing activities. As the club grew, expansions were necessary to accommodate the increasing number of events and visitors.
In the 1970s, recognizing the need for modernization and more space, significant renovations and expansions were undertaken. This development was designed to enhance the clubhouse’s functionality and aesthetics, making it capable of hosting larger events and providing better amenities for members and guests.
The most recent and substantial update came after a serious incident where a pesticide damaged the course’s trees. This unfortunate event led to a settlement, and with the funds, a new clubhouse and banquet facility were constructed, opening in 2016. The new 10,000-square-foot facility, designed by Architectural Design Consultants, Inc. (ADCI) and built by Friede & Associates, features modern amenities, extensive glass for scenic views, and a layout that includes a large banquet area, a restaurant, and a covered patio with a fire pit (Friede & Associates) (Friede & Associates).
The expansion to 18 holes and the construction of new clubhouses have marked significant milestones in our club’s history. Each renovation and addition has been carefully planned to enhance the member experience while preserving the natural beauty and integrity of the original landscape. These developments not only expanded our physical footprint but also enriched the services and amenities available to our members and guests.
Pioneers of the Green:
The success and longevity of Reedsburg Country Club are credited to the visionary leaders and dedicated individuals who steered the club through the ups and downs. From the founding members who first dreamed of a golf course in Reedsburg to today’s committed staff and volunteers, each person has left a unique imprint on the club’s legacy. Their passion and hard work have ensured that our club remains a place where traditions are honored and new memories are made.
Transitions To Semi-Private:
In 1994, the Reedsburg Country Club transitioned to a semi-private golf course. This change allowed the club to offer memberships and benefits typical of private clubs while opening its facilities to the public, enhancing its accessibility and community integration.
This strategic move helped broaden the club’s appeal and maintain a high standard of service and exclusivity.
Centennial Celebrations:
As we swing into our 100th year, we have planned a series of special events and activities to commemorate this centennial milestone. These include historical exhibits showcasing artifacts and photographs from our club’s rich past, special golf tournaments, celebrations, and events that will unite the generations of members and public guests who have made our club what it is today.
