Tee It Forward With Our New Tees & Scorecard
At Reedsburg Country Club, we’re committed to providing a golf experience that’s fun, fair, and accessible for everyone. That’s why we’re proud to announce the addition of two new tee options and updated scorecards for the 2024 season:
- Orange Tees – 4,450 yards
- Gray-Orange Combo Tees – 4,726 yards
These shorter options are part of a broader effort to help players of all abilities enjoy the game more and align RCC with modern USGA and PGA best practices.
Why Offer New Tees?
According to the USGA’s “Tee It Forward” initiative (source), many golfers are playing from tees that are too long for their driving distance—leading to longer rounds, slower play, and less enjoyment. Our goal at RCC is to change that.
The addition of shorter tees not only aligns with national data but also removes barriers to entry for new golfers, supports senior and junior players, and increases inclusivity across age and gender.
Who Should Use the New Tees?
Everyone. The USGA makes it clear: tees are ageless and genderless. The best tee for you is the one that helps you:
- Reach the fairway comfortably on par 4s and 5s
- Reach most greens in regulation
- Use a variety of clubs on approach shots
Use your 7-iron distance as a guide to select your ideal tee. Here’s a quick reference:
7-Iron Distance | Suggested Tee | Course Yardage |
---|---|---|
80–95 yards | Orange Tee | 4,450 yards |
110 yards | Gray-Orange Combo | 4,726 yards |
125 yards | Gold Tee | 5,611 yards |
140 yards | White Tee | 6,027 yards |
155+ yards | Blue Tee | 6,426 yards |
For more guidance, check out the PGA’s Course Setup Guidelines (source) and USGA Playing From the Right Tee resource (source).
What’s a Combo Tee?
A combo tee alternates between two tee markers to create a custom playing yardage. At RCC, the Gray-Orange Combo Tees use the orange markers on holes 1, 2, 7, 9, 10, 13, and 18, and gray markers on the rest. These are clearly marked on our updated scorecards, which are now available in the Pro Shop.
Handicap Posting & Course Ratings
Wondering how the new tees affect your handicap? RCC worked with the Wisconsin State Golf Association (WSGA) to re-rate the course last fall, and all tees now have official slope and course ratings for men and women. These are fully integrated into the GHIN system (source).
Your handicap index will automatically adjust based on the tee you select when posting scores through GHIN or the WSGA app.
Tee Box | Yardage | Men’s Rating/Slope | Ladies’ Rating/Slope |
---|---|---|---|
Orange | 4,450 | 63.7 / 107 | 67.4 / 111 |
Gray-Orange | 4,726 | 64.1 / 110 | 68.1 / 120 |
Gray | 5,182 | 65.4 / 114 | 70.2 / 123 |
Playing in Events or Championships?
To compete from a new tee in handicapped events, players must have at least three 18-hole rounds (or 54 holes) posted from that tee. If you plan to switch tees for an upcoming event, notify the Pro Shop so staff can adjust your handicap accordingly.
For the Club Championship, only the Women’s Championship Flight is required to play from the Gray tees. All other flights may compete from their usual tees.
Why This Matters for the Future of Golf
Expanding tee options at RCC helps make the game more welcoming. Benefits include:
- Greater inclusivity for juniors, seniors, and beginners
- Reduced course strain and faster play
- A more enjoyable and strategic round
- Increased satisfaction and long-term engagement for members and guests
Whether you’re recovering from an injury, looking for a better pace of play, or simply want to enjoy the game more, teeing it forward is a smart, modern choice.
Try the new tees during your next round at Reedsburg Country Club—and discover how the right yardage can improve your score and your experience.
